Well, it's finally happened, after all these many years of waiting. Star Wars is now officially available on DVD!

Keeping in mind that I am in the camp of those who believe that George Lucas should release the unchanged original theatrical versions of the movies, I think these new DVDs look and sound great! There's not a single spec of dust or scratch anywhere in the picture.

There are many changes on the DVD as compared to the original versions, but the majority of these were on the 1997 "Special Edition" releases on VHS. The most notable new differences are a tightening up of the fix in the first movie that makes it appear that Greedo shoots first in the cantina scene. Even though Greedo still shoots first, the shots are now closer and it's less obvious.

The other change is the replacing of the actor who plays Anakin Skywalker in the very last scene of the third movie to match the final movie that will be coming out next year. It's an emotional part of the movie but the change is not so glaring as to be annoying.

Overall, IMHO, these DVDs do not disappoint, and they were definitely worth waiting for!
